[News] Apple will start to sell new iMacs this Friday

Apple's new, thin iMac!
Apple has finally announced today that it will begin selling its new range of iMacs this coming Friday. They will be available on 30th November. The smaller version of the iMac - 21.5 inches will be available online at their store - www.apple.co.nz - from Friday with starting prices at $1,999, whereas the larger 27 inch iMac will be available for pre-order, also from this Friday, at a starting price of $2,799, but won't start shipping until next month. We are not sure why exactly as Apple hasn't told us yet, but we'd guess is that they either don't have enough parts for the iMac, or that "something wasn't quite ready for Prime-time just yet."
While it is not unusual for Apple to announce a new device or hardware and not ship or take pre-orders for a couple of days, but it is a bit unusual for Apple to announce a new device but not ship or take pre-orders for weeks or even months in this case!

Apple has also taken down its previous generations of iMacs down from its online stores so no iMacs can currently be bought at the moment... even at retailers.

The new 21.5" iMacs have Intel's "Ivy Bridge" 2.7GHz or 2.9 GHz quad-core i5 processors, with 8GB of RAM, 1TB hard disks running at 5400RPM (with 2.9GHz having and optional, upgradable 1TB Fusion Drive), and Nvidia GeForce graphics chipsets with 512MB of dedicated memory.

Not to forget to mention, the new range of iMacs are also a heap of a lot thinner! Measuring just 5mm at their edges! Wow! If you compare that to its predecessor..... (Insert your own words here..)

You may have noticed that I mentioned "Fusion Drive" above in the specs paragraph. If you don't know, Fusion Drive is Apple's new hardware drive, that combines 128GB of flash storage, much like an SSD, with a standard hard drive of either 1TB, in between, to 3TB. This new hybrid drive will significantly boost up the starting times of the iMac and the opening of apps when turned on.

Still no pricing for the Fusion Drives from Apple as of yet, but stay tuned and we will let you know of pricing once we hear more!

What is the most impressive feature/aspect of the new range of iMacs? Are you planning to pre-order one when it becomes available? Would you go for the smaller or larger version of the iMac? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
