[News] Steve Jobs Would Be Proud: How Apple Won The War Against Flash

Steve Jobs would definitely be proud! On Thursday 28 June, Adobe did an extraordinary thing! The company announced in a blog post that it would discontinue the use of Flash Player for devices running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It also said it would pull the plugin from the Google Play store on August 15, just less than a month away from today!   Read on for more!

Adobe's 'loss' comes after five years after the introduction of the iPhone - the device which totally thrashed Flash's mobile 'wishes', even almost before they even began their development of Flash for mobile!

When the iPhone was announced, the lack of support of Flash was not that big of a deal... until the iPad came out two-and-a-half years later that the 'war' actually began! The iPad was announced in January at WWDC but wasn't available until later that March. That was when people began to actually realise the absence of Flash Player was a big deal. A big screen was great for watching video clips, which then, Flash, was the standard for video playback and interactivity on the web, but it was missing! And that was a big deal! But, Steve Jobs gave its reasons, "Security, being 'open', as well as its ability to access the full web" to name a few...... so there we have it!
Apple: Win! Flash: Lose!

  1. Well that doesn't surprise. I have been troubled with the latest version of Flash V3.300.268 bombing out of the Firefox for the past couple of weeks. Now back to V300.3.202.233
