[News] Samsung Galaxy S3 Official Release Date

Edit: (6/5/2012) P.S I'm surprised that this picture of a leaked S3 phone (above) looks nearly the same as the real S3 that just got announced!!

The new Samsung Galaxy S3 will be launched on May 3rd during an event in London. The quad-core device will become the official smartphone of 2012 Olympic Games which will be held in Great Britain capital city. Samsung sent the invitations to the press conference where the new smartphone will be unveiled on Monday. Samsung’s new flagship will be launched simultaneously in New York, Seoul and Dubai.

Rumor has it that Samsung Galaxy S3 will come with a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a quad-core 1.5GHz Exynos chipset, 1 GB of RAM, 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and face unlock and 8 megapixel camera mounted on the back with full HD video recording capabilities. The smartphone will feature with 4G LTE support and will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

It seems that the new Galaxy S3 will be only 7 mm thin, 1.9 mm thinner than HTC One X and 1.5 mm thinner than its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy S II. Samsung Galaxy S3 weighs in 118 grams, it will be available in two body colors – black/blue and white – and it will come with a 1,750 mAh battery.
After we found out that May 3rd will be a busy day for the tech blogs and Android-powered smartphone enthusiasts, BGR quotes an anonymous source saying that Samsung’s next flagship will be available in two internal storage versions 16 and 32 GB.

It is a little bit weird that a 64 GB will not be manufactured, especially because Samsung is planing to drop the microSD card slot. The guys at BGR also confirmed the rumors saying that Galaxy S3 will come in two body color tones: black/blue and white. As about the commercial launch of the device, BGR’s source said that the South Korean company plans to simultaneously launch its flagship on several markets, with special events held in the big cities of the world. Just like it was rumored two days ago, Galaxy S3 will be the official smartphone of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

I guess we will see the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the hands of all gold medalists, who will wave it in front of the cameras and I’m also expecting a special application for the 2012 Olympics developed by Samsung. What’s even more interesting is that the mysterious source quoted by BGR reported that the smartphone will sport a 1080p display. So, are we ready for a smartphone featuring a 1080p display considering that the first 720p debuted last winter?
